The seven festivals of the Lord found in Leviticus 23 were given to us by God so His people could understand the coming of the Messiah (Christ) and the role that the Messiah would play in redeeming and restoring both man and earth back to God.

Many of us have heard of the Feasts celebrated by Jews all over the world for many centuries but few of us have an understanding of their deep meaning and importance. In Colossians 2:16-17 Paul writes Let not one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or Sabbath which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is Christ.

Yeshua (the Hebrew name for Jesus, which means salvation) was and is the substance or fulfillment of the plan of God revealed and foreshadowed in these seven Festivals. The month of September, or Elul Tisrei as it is called on the Jewish calendar, marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year. The new year begins on September 6th with Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah literally means chief or head of the year and is also known as the Feast of Trumpets.

God gave us Rosh Hashanah to teach us about the resurrection of the dead, the coronation of the Messiah, the wedding of the Messiah and much more.

A thirty day period of personal examination and repentance called Teshuvah precedes Rosh Hashanah. The first ten day period of personal inventory is known as the High Holy Days and ends at Yom Kipper - the Day of Atonement.

Yom Kipper teaches us about the literal second coming of the Messiah - Yeshua (Jesus the Christ), when He will return again to the Mount of Olives. It speaks of the sacrificial blood of Christ. The Biblical name for the Day of Atonement is Yom Hakippurim, which means the Day of covering, canceling, pardon and reconciling.

The festival of the Lord are fulfilled in Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus the Christ) while at the same time revealing tremendous insight on how to live for Yeshua on a daily basis.

Baruch H Shem:

Blessed be His name!
